rainy day wedding? WHAT TO DO

There’s one thing you have no control over on your wedding day, and that’s the weather. Here are a photographers tips to preparing for a rainy day wedding!

01. BE PREPARED

Don’t be left in the rain with no umbrella! Make sure you purchase 5 umbrellas from any discount shop. The see-through ones are always cheap and they look great in photos as they allow the light to pass through. If you have the budget then grab a large black golf umbrella. Even if the weather forecast is great, always have a back-up plan. Believe me, you never know what might happen. Especially for your ceremony! The last thing you want to be doing is making last-minute plans on your wedding day.

02. DON’T STRESS!

Don’t waste your time checking the forecast, especialy the long term one. If it says it is going to rain in 21 days, I can almost gaurentee it won’t. So there is absolutely no point even thinking about the weather forecast until the day of the wedding, and even then it will probably be wrong. As long as you are already prepared for the worst, then you have nothing to worry about. I have photographed weddings where it has been pouring with rain all day, but there are moments where there is a break in the weather and we can still go out for photos. It will never be as bad as you imagine it will be!

03. GO WITH THE FLOW

So what, it’s raining. That doesn’t mean your day is ruined. You will still have the best day ever! I have photographed so many weddings in the rain and the best ones have always been when the couples just accept the weather and go with the flow. In fact, most of my favourite weddings have been in the rain! Embrace it! It makes for the best photos, I promise! If you are happy to get under your umbrella and take advantage of the rain you can get the most amazing photos. If you enjoy the day for what it is, you will be rewarded with beautiful memories.

TRUST YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER… AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE BAD WEATHER!

The best advice I can give is just to enjoy the day for what it is, rain, hail, or shine!

No matter how terrible the weather gets, you will still have the most amazing day celebrating your love for each other, surrounded by friends and family. Your photographer will capture all those memories for you, so enjoy every minute!
